Bob Sanders

Bob Sander's NAPA WAGON is one of the more recognizable drag cars in Albuquerque. The big blue and yellow wagon was a colorful and quick addition to the once open Albuquerque drag strip. Since the closing of the strip, Bob has been campaigning the car at Roswell, with occasional sojourns to Firebird and Las Vegas. Best Albuquerque times, with a little spray, have been in the 10.60 range with speeds slightly over 128 mph. The best time without the bottle was a 10.53 at 128.83 mph at Firebird.

His 3,200 lb. car is equipped with a 406 Chevy with Canfield heads ported by Leon Shay. the innards consist of a Crane Cams roller, Harland sharp rockers, 6 inch 4340 rods and a crankshaft especially built for Bob by Callies. Budlong Motor Sports built the mighty power plant and Bob hopes that this partnership with Todd will result in some nine second runs.

Bob's labor of love could not have been accomplished without the help of his many special friends. His crew chief, Glenn Simpkins, deserves the greatest thanks, but there have been many others; Kirt, Darrel, Nicole, Dale, Chad, Brenda, Ed, Eddy, Lee, Ted, Scott, and Todd at Yearwood and the great guys at NAPA. Royal Purple provided all the fluids that the car runs and Bob wouldn't run anything else.
